Dynamic Projected Markings Transform Safety at Cheese Manufacturing Plant

The Challenge

The Cheese Manufacturing Plant warehouse had a persistent problem: forklifts and pedestrians sharing the same space, blind corners, and limited visibility.

Near misses were frequent, putting employee wellbeing at risk and disrupting day-to-day operations.

They needed a way to alert pedestrians to moving forklifts – in real time, reliably, and without adding to workplace noise or distraction.

Our Approach

WSS recommended and installed dynamic projected markings, tailored specifically to the warehouse layout.

The key difference from static signage: the projections are context-aware. When there’s no hazard, there’s no projection, keeping distractions to a minimum and ensuring warnings carry real weight when they appear.

What We Delivered

Using sensor technology to detect forklift movement, the system projects warning signs and crossings directly onto the floor, but only when they’re needed.

• As a forklift approaches a blind corner, a projected warning appears, prompting pedestrians to stop or proceed with caution
• Designated pedestrian crossings dynamically switch to stop signs when a forklift is nearby
• When the area is clear, projections disappear entirely

The result is clear, immediate communication without the clutter of permanent signage.

Results & What’s Next

Near misses have significantly reduced, and pedestrians now have real-time, visible warnings that allow them to respond before a situation escalates.

The results have spoken for themselves. Cheese Manufacturing Plant is now exploring additional projector units across the site, as well as automated barrier protection systems that integrate with the same sensor technology to physically secure hazard zones.

A targeted solution that addressed a specific pain point, and is already being scaled.
