Food Manufacturing Facility Safety Upgrade Project
The Problem
There were significant safety challenges across this site, particularly with pedestrian movement in high-traffic areas. Pedestrians frequently strayed from designated walkways, cutting across busy yards, creating hazardous interactions with vehicles.
The dispatch area presented additional risks, with pedestrians stepping out from blind spots into the path of forklift trucks (FLTs). Compounding these issues, traditional line markings were wearing away quickly, necessitating a more durable solution, especially at crossing points.
These problems not only posed safety risks but also impacted operational efficiency.
The Solution
Cold-applied MMA line markings were introduced for their superior durability and longevity, particularly at high-wear crossing points.
WSS conducted a comprehensive Digiscan 360 site survey to identify key hazards and recommend targeted improvements.
The solutions implemented included Anter Barriers to physically segregate pedestrians from vehicle routes, ensuring they stayed on designated walkways.
Additionally, internal projection markings with ‘appear on approach’ automation were installed to enhance visibility at blind spots. These smart active markings disappear when FLTs approach, alerting pedestrians to potential hazards in real time.
The Result
The project delivered immediate and tangible benefits. The site’s aesthetics improved significantly with clear, durable line markings and smart barrier systems.
Early observations also confirmed the superior durability of MMA line markings compared to traditional thermoplastic, reducing maintenance needs.
Most importantly, pedestrian safety was greatly enhanced. The Anter Barriers effectively redirected foot traffic, keeping pedestrians on safe routes and away from vehicle paths.
The projected markings provided an active safety layer, reducing blind-spot incidents by making pedestrians aware of approaching FLTs.
