Projected Safety Signage Automation at IFF Manufacturing
The Problem
The primary hazard identified on-site was a blind spot at a critical pedestrian crossing point, where forklifts could approach from three different directions. This created multiple zones where pedestrians had no visibility of oncoming forklifts, significantly increasing the risk of collisions.
Without clear sightlines, pedestrians could inadvertently step into the crossing at the same moment a forklift emerged from a blind spot, resulting in potentially serious accidents.
These blind spots posed a daily challenge, with both forklift operators and pedestrians struggling to navigate the shared spaces safely. The need for a targeted solution to address this hazard and mitigate the associated risks was clear.
The Solution

To tackle the hazard, a tailored active safety system was installed. This system was specifically designed to address the site’s unique layout and the dangers posed by the blind spots.
Radar sensors were strategically placed to monitor the areas around the crossing, detecting forklifts as they approached from any direction.
The system was further enhanced with projected safety signage, activated in real-time. When a forklift enters the radar’s detection zone, bright markings are illuminated on the floor, alerting pedestrians to the presence and direction of the vehicle.
This gives pedestrians clear, immediate warnings, enabling them to pause and assess their surroundings before crossing.
By integrating cutting-edge sensor technology with intuitive visual cues, the solution effectively eliminated the blind spot hazard, ensuring better communication between forklifts and pedestrians.
The Result
The implementation of the active safety system has transformed safety at the crossing point. Pedestrians now benefit from clear, real-time alerts, significantly reducing the likelihood of collisions with forklifts.
Operators also feel more confident, knowing pedestrians are better informed about approaching MHE traffic.
In addition to improving safety in the immediate area, the system has fostered a broader safety culture across the site. Pedestrians are more aware of their surroundings, and the active warnings constantly remind them of the importance of vigilance in shared spaces.
